Diacontrol™

Improvement of hypertension by a monitored reduction of dialysate conductivity with Diacontrol™ (Nephrol Dial Transplant 2005)

Diacontrol™ is a biofeedback system for the physiological management of the sodium. From periodic measurements of the sodium blood concentration with Diascan, the Diacontrol™ system computes the dialysate conductivity allowing the sodium level to reach a prescribed end-of-session value.

Dialysate conductivity is an effective tool for the control of sodium removal but its adequate prescription requires information about the patient’s sodium level. Indeed, prescribing too low a conductivity results in symptomatic episodes whereas too high a conductivity could produce dramatic long-term complications.

Restoring a stable sodium level at the end of each treatment, which is possible with Diacontrol™, is a way to ensure that sodium removal equals the inter-dialysis sodium intakes.

When the patient's weight and sodium level return to a constant value at the end of each treatment, the exact amounts of water and sodium accumulated since the previous session are removed and the sodium water equilibrium is properly regulated.
